Our Need
As a very small community-based non-governmental organization, it costs just $600 USD/month to run Gunduatid Initiative’s programming (see details below). This includes rent for the community center, modest monthly stipends for the Director, Facilitator, and Counselor, materials and supplies, internet, and daily breakfast and lunch for the children, many of whom do not otherwise get a consistent meal.
Our funding is entirely generated from small-dollar community and international donations, but we are seeking greater stability. Harriet often works without pay if we do not meet our fundraising goals for the month, and we spend significant time seeking small donations from many different sources in order to pay our rent and feed the children.
Our goal is to raise at least $1,000 USD per month that we can count on. This will allow us to pay consistent stipend salaries, add a few additional part-time staff in Uganda to support targeted needs, and consistently cover our operational costs.
A one-time or monthly contribution in any amount will be greatly appreciated. Even $25 or $50 goes a very long way for us and all funds raised go directly to supporting our lean program.
There are Two Ways to Donate:
Internationally
Via our fundraising advisor, Rebecca Furst-Nichols, who accepts donations in the US via Venmo (@Rebecca-Furst-Nichols), Paypal (rfurst.nichols@gmail.com), or CashApp ($RFN) and sends funds directly to Harriet with no fee using the SendWave app. Please include “For Harriet” in your transfer. You can contact Harriet via Facebook messenger to let her know to expect it. Rebecca and Harriet have been friends since 2008, when she was working alongside Harriet in Uganda. She now lives in the US with her family.
Please note that unfortunately, these donations are not US tax-deductible.
