Psychosocial Support

Many children who attend Gunduatid face mental health challenges due to factors such as abuse, neglect, trauma, and exposure to violence. Beginning in 2024, Gunduatid launched a psychosocial support program that provides counseling to children and their parents and staff. In addition, a licensed counselor trains staff in trauma-informed approaches to identify and support children in need.

Through the psychosocial support program, staff began to learn more about the children and their needs. Several children that continue to face challenges at home such as violence and neglect. Gunduatid has begun working with the children to understand their rights and recognize abuse. In cases of deep need, Gunduatid partners with other organizations and helps children seek assistance.
